The Weld County District Attorney’s Office offers internship opportunities in Prosecution, Victim Services, Investigations and Diversion.  These internships are designed to provide experience to aspiring individuals seeking a future career in the Criminal Justice System. Additionally, interns will have an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge and experience of providing valuable services to the citizens of Weld County.  Click on the links below to learn more about the opportunities in “The Fighting 19th.”

 

 

 

Legal Internships

The Weld County District Attorney's Office is able to accept two legal interns each summer. This internship is available to law students who have finished their second year of law school and are eligible to practice under the Student Practice Act. Please know we do not offer paralegal internships. 

If you are interested in learning more about this internship, please email your letter of interest and your resume to Chief Deputy District Attorney Patrick Roche by emailing PRoche@weld.gov, by March 15th prior to the summer you would like to intern.

Victim Witness and Crime Victim Compensation Internships

VICTIM WITNESS

There are many opportunities to have hands-on experience working with victims of crime, including providing support during court hearings.

Interns will also learn the judicial process, gain knowledge of community resources and the processing of court cases.

CRIME VICTIM COMPENSATION

Crime Victim Compensation interns assist victims of violent crime with financial needs such as funeral, safety, counseling, lost wages and other needs.

Interns must have ability to process critical thinking and mathematics.  Business and accounting majors are welcome to apply.

Investigations Unit Internships

The investigations unit of the District Attorney's Office has a number of duties including interviewing witnesses, serving subpoenas and receiving criminal complaints. The intern position for this unit plays an important role in locating witnesses, assisting with background investigations on individuals and conducting research for upcoming cases. There are many opportunities for hands-on experience working with criminal cases, investigating complaints of criminal law violations and providing support for attorneys. Interns will also gain a base of knowledge about the judicial process.

This internship is designed primarily for college students majoring in criminal justice and who are interested in investigative work. This internship is offered for the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.

Fall (Sept.-Dec.) Application deadline is Aug. 1
Spring (Jan.-May) Application deadline is Nov. 10
Summer (June-Aug.) Application deadline is April 1

Diversion Program Internships

The District Attorney's Office Diversion Programs work with criminal defendants with first time criminal offenses.  Diversion interns work directly on cases, participate in data analysis projects, and file information with the Court. Interns will gain knowledge of the judicial process.

This internship is designed primarily for college students in their junior and senior years majoring in criminal justice or psychology related fields. Interns will work directly with criminal defendants. This internship is offered for the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Positions are open until filled.

Fall (Sept.-Dec.) Application deadline is May 1
Spring (Jan.-May) Application deadline is November 1
Summer (June-Aug.) Application deadline is April 1
