The Weld County District Attorney’s Office offers internship opportunities in Prosecution, Victim Services, Investigations and Diversion.  These internships are designed to provide experience to aspiring individuals seeking a future career in the Criminal Justice System. Additionally, interns will have an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge and experience of providing valuable services to the citizens of Weld County.  Click on the links below to learn more about the opportunities in “The Fighting 19th.”

Legal Internships

The Weld County District Attorney's Office accepts up to four legal interns each summer, depending on current circumstances.

This opportunity is available to law students who have completed their second year and who are eligible to practice under the Student Practice Act. Please note, we do not offer paralegal internships.

As an intern, you'll gain hands-on experience in court hearings, case prep, legal research, evidence handling, and witness prep, all while working closely with experienced professionals. This is a great opportunity to build your confidence, expand your skills, and grow your network for future career opportunities!

Victim Witness and Crime Victim Compensation Internships

The Weld County District Attorney's Office offers internships in the Victim Witness and Crime Victims Compensation Unit. As an intern assisting Victim Witness, you'll work directly with crime victims, offering support during court hearings and throughout the legal process.

As an intern with Crime Victims Compensation, you’ll assist victims with their primary financial needs due to the crime. In both areas, you’ll learn how cases are handled, from investigation to trial, and gain knowledge of local resources for victims.

This hands-on experience provides insight into the criminal justice system and the role of the DA’s office in seeking justice for victims of crime.

Investigations Unit Internships

The Investigations Division at the Weld County District Attorney's Office plays a pivotal role in the criminal justice system.

The internship position within this division offers a unique opportunity to engage in various critical aspects of a criminal investigation.

Interns will assist with locating witnesses, conducting background checks, and performing research to support upcoming cases. Through this hands-on experience, interns will gain invaluable exposure to investigative procedures and case preparation, while providing essential support during the prosecution of a case.

This unpaid internship is ideal for college students majoring in Criminal Justice and who are interested in pursuing a career in investigative work. It is offered for the fall, spring, and summer semesters.

Diversion Program Internships

The District Attorney's Office Diversion Programs provide an opportunity for first-time criminal offenders, both adult and juveniles, to address their actions outside the traditional justice system.

As a Diversion intern, you will work hands-on with active cases, assist in data analysis projects, and file key information with the Court. This experience will deepen your understanding of the judicial process, while offering practical exposure to criminal justice and diversion practices.

This unpaid internship is ideal for college students in their junior or senior year, particularly those majoring in Criminal Justice or Psychology. Interns will have direct interaction with criminal defendants, gaining valuable insights into both legal and behavioral aspects of the diversion process. The internship is available for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, with positions open until filled.
