GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – On Thursday, March 16, Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke issued a letter and report to Evans Police Chief Rick Brandt in regard to the officer involved shooting of Jacob Wierema.
The 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) conducted the investigation which was provided to the District Attorney’s Office.
Based on the thorough CIRT investigation, DA Rourke has determined that Sergeant Schissler was justified in discharging his firearm at Wierema during the incident on February 11, 2023.
Wierema is charged with:
COUNT 1: CRIMINAL ATTEMPT TO COMMIT MURDER IN THE FIRST DEGREE
COUNT 2: CRIME OF VIOLENCE
COUNT 3: ASSAULT IN THE FIRST DEGREE
COUNT 4: ASSAULT IN THE FIRST DEGREE
COUNT 5: ASSAULT IN THE SECOND DEGREE
COUNT 6: MENACING
COUNT 7: MENACING
COUNT 8: MENACING
COUNT 9: CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
COUNT 10: RESISTING ARREST
A disposition hearing is scheduled for April 13 at 8:30 a.m. in Division 17.
Because there is a pending prosecution, the full letter and report will not be released at this time.
