Charges filed in deadly crash that killed off-duty Adams County deputy

GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – A woman has been formally charged for causing a crash that killed an off-duty Adams County Deputy on Christmas Eve.

On December 24, 2023, first responders were called to a fatal crash at County Road 49 and County Road 40 in Weld County where Adams County Deputy Joshua Maloy was later pronounced deceased.

Last week, the Weld County District Attorney’s Office charged 37-year-old Kayla Carroll in connection to the fatal crash. She has been charged with the following counts:

COUNT 1: VEHICULAR HOMICIDE

COUNT 2: VEHICULAR ASSAULT

COUNT 3: VEHICULAR ASSAULT

COUNT 4: DRIVING UNDER RESTRAINT - OUTSTANDING JUDGMENT

COUNT 5: DISPLAYING FICTITIOUS OR ALTERED LICENSE PLATES

A summons to appear in court was issued to the defendant, therefore an affidavit or mugshot isn’t available in this case.

An advisement hearing has been scheduled for December 12th at 9AM in Division 16. Because of pending litigation, no other information will be released at this time.
