GREELEY, Colo. (Weld County D.A.) – Michael Rourke was sworn in for his final term as Weld County District Attorney during a ceremony on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

DA Rourke has been the elected district attorney for the 19th Judicial District since 2015 when he was appointed by Governor John Hickenlooper.

Prior to becoming the elected district attorney in 2015, DA Rourke served as the assistant district attorney and a chief deputy district attorney in Weld County for 10 years. In total, he’s been serving the People of Weld County for 20 years.

“I want to say thank you to the members of this community who have entrusted me with this incredibly important responsibility,” Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke said. “To be able to stand up in a courtroom and say I represent the people of Weld County as the elected district attorney is the honor of a lifetime.”

As DA Rourke reflects on the past few terms in office, he says one of the things he’s most proud of is the way he, and the rest of the members from his office, put public safety first and foremost in all of the decision making while serving the community.

In addition, he said he’s also proud to look back at the exceptional job his office has done at successfully prosecuting some of the most high-profile cold cases in Weld County history.

“It’s not just me, it’s every single person in this office that has contributed to fighting for justice for some of our most vulnerable victims,” DA Rourke said. “We have prosecuted some extremely high- profile cold cases that a lot of members of this community cared about and followed. I’m proud to say that we have held offenders accountable and got justice for victims and their families.”

In his last term as district attorney, DA Rourke says he’ll continue serving and representing the community to the best of his ability.

“In my last term, we’ll continue to focus our efforts on prosecuting those who continue to violate and offend against children and at-risk adults, some of the most vulnerable citizens in our community. That has to be a top priority,” DA Rourke said. “ Please know that we will continue to come to work every day and will continue to work as hard as we can on behalf of victims, on behalf of public safety, and on behalf of your families to make this as safe of a community as we possibly can."
