Michael Rourke Sworn In

GREELEY, Colo. (Weld D.A.) -- Standing by his two sons and family, Michael J. Rourke was sworn into office as the 19th Judicial District Attorney Tuesday morning and recommitted himself to fighting for justice for all Weld County citizens.

At the ceremony, Rourke spoke to a room of prosecutors, county leaders, law enforcement officers and other community members about his commitment to keeping Weld County safe and his appreciation of holding office.

"I thought I knew what the highlight of my career was," Rourke said. "I thought it came in January 2015 when Gov. Hickenlooper appointed me to office. But I was wrong. It came when I was elected to this office by the people that we serve every day."

Before Rourke's remarks, Chief Judge James Hartmann administered the oath of office to all prosecutors in the Weld County District Attorney's office, including Rourke, ADA Robb Miller and the other 25 prosecutors.

Historically, the office is sworn in at the beginning of every new, four-year term, unless the District Attorney vacates the office during the four years.

In his closing remarks, Rourke addressed the prosecutors one last time. "At least for the next four years, we will continue to make this community safe. Now go forth and do justice, folks."
